ACC to reinvestigate Rony’s wealthStaff Correspondent
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday decided to reinvestigate Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony’s wealth, a senior official of ACC said.
The official said the commission took the decision during a regular meeting of the commission.
Earlier on July 30, the commission deputy director Talebur Rahman had submitted a report to the commission on Rony’s wealth statement.
The commission in June 2012, had started inquiry into allegations that Rony had built a house on government land, received commission from tenders and accumulated illegal wealth.
The commission deputy director Ahsan Ahmed of ACC Patuakhali office began the inquiry against Rony and the commission later transferred the probe to its head office.
On August 30, 2012, Rony had appeared before the ACC headquarters
in Dhaka when the commission questioned him
about allegations filed by ACC Patuakhali district office.
The commission on July 31, 2012, wrote to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) asking it to provide details about the beneficiary owners’ (BO) account of Rony and his wife Kamrunnahar Runu in the stock market.
The SEC on August 13, 2012 sent letters to managing directors of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and Central Depository Bangladesh Limited, chief executive officers of Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange, and president of Merchant Bankers Association to
provide information about Rony’s investment in shares, debentures, mutual funds, bonds and in other securities.
