Seasoned film actor Anwar Hossain is critically ill and was admitted to Square Hospital on Sunday evening as he was facing difficulty in taking regular meal at home.
The octogenarian actor, who does not appear in films these days due to his old-age complications and severe asthma, has been diagnosed with stones in his gall bladder and gastrological problem as well.
‘He cannot eat. The doctors in the hospital will decide his treatment following a thorough medical investigation,’ Anwar Hossain’s only daughter Zinat said.
Anwar Hossain’s wife Zenat Anwar urged everybody to pray for the seasoned actor, who entertained viewers enacting diverse characters in around 500 films in his long acting career of over five decades.
Thanks to his dedication and skill, Anwar Hossain has achieved a height in the history of Bangladeshi filmdom that very few actors have. As recognition to his kaleidoscopic acting career Anwar Hossain has been honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 by the government.
Hossain made his debut in Tomar Amar in 1961 and two years later played the role of the hero in Salauddin’s Surja Snyan.
His performance as the titular in Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula (1967) placed him permanently in the heart of millions of movie lovers.
