No sign of reconciliation: FakhrulNew Age Online
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Saturday said the way the Prime Minister, cabinet ministers and leaders of the ruling party are making statements about the next elections, BNP does not see any sign of reconciliation.
‘As a result, a confrontation is inevitable in the days ahead,’ Fakhrul said, adding, the government would have to shoulder responsibility for it.
He expressed these views while talking to the reporters at BNP central office at Naya Paltan, a day after AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam’s comments that ‘no dialogue or compromise with those (indicating BNP) who made fun and celebrated birthday of Khaleda Zia on the anniversary of assassination of founding President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
BNP acting secretary general again expressed his hopes that the government would open a dialogue with the opposition to resolve political standoff to avoid confrontations.
He said it seems ruling party leader Ashraf sometimes talks under pressure.
Fakhrul reminded all that AL general secretary earlier had repeatedly stated that there was no alternative to dialogue to resolve the political stalemate.
On the basis of his previous stand, Fakhrul said, they hoped that the government would take initiative for a dialogue.
Fakhrul also apprehended about looming constitutional crisis.
He said the ruling party is sometime saying that the next general election would be held keeping the parliament functional while they are also saying that the election would be held after dissolving the parliament.
He said the Prime Minister has said that the parliament would be dissolved after October 25 this year to hold next general election.
Fakhrul said the constitutional experts think there was no such directive in the Bangladesh Constitution to hold election after dissolving the parliament. So there are some ambiguities which might create constitutional crisis, he said.
