ACC seeks food ration entitlementNew Age Online
The Anti Corruption Commission has again sought food ration entitlement for its official and employees despite opposition from the ministry of finance, said an ACC official.
ACC secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury told New Age on Thursday that they had forwarded an appeal in this connection to the ministry of finance last month.
He said they should be given food ration as their job nature is similar to certain agencies, such as National Security Intelligence, which is entitled to basic and cheaper foods.
NSI along with more than half a dozen agencies and departments including the Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, BGB, Ansar, Coast Guard, SSF and DGFI receive food rations.
Under the facility the government provides certain amount of rice, wheat, edible oil, pulses and sugar at lower than the market rates.
In 2010, finance ministry declined the same ACC appeal, arguing, food rations would encourage many other state-owned agencies to seek the same facility.
The ACC has also pursued cabinet division to convince the finance ministry in this regard.
Faizur Rahman said they are yet to receive any response from finance ministry.
He said they are hoping a positive response this time as it will benefit 1,073 staffs, including 260 first-class officers.
