Shibir leader killed in cityNew Age Online
A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed during a clash between police and Shibir activists at Jatrabari area in Dhaka Wednesday morning, police and locals said.
The deceased was identified as Khalilur Rahman, Shibir’s president of Dhaka metropolitan ward no. 88.
Several others including a camera crew of Banglavision TV were also injured during the clash.
Shibir activists brought out a procession at about 7:30am in the area and exploded two crude bombs.
Later, police chased them that erupted clash with the police.
Shibir men and locals claimed that police fired bullets to disperse the activists, and that Khalil was bullet-hit and died on the spot.
Officer in charge of Jatrabari police station Rafiqul Islam told New Age that Khalil might have been hit by a vehicle.
Khalil’s sister Sheuli Akhter said, their village home is in Santhia upazila of Pabna district. The sibling said her brother was a Shibir leader.
His body was taken to Mitfort Hospital morgue for autopsy purposes, police said.
Another picket was arrested while he was trying to vandalise vehicles at Adabar area at about 8:00 am.
Hartal activists brought out a procession at Uttara at about 7:30 am.
