Fifteen people, including two sisters of a family, were killed and 35 others suffered injuries in road accidents in Gaibandha, Tangail, Madaripur and Magura districts Saturday.
BSS Gaibandha Correspondent reports: Seven people were killed and 30 others injured in a tragic road accident at Boalia in Gobindapur upazila on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway Saturday afternoon.
Police said the accident occurred when a Rangpur-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan met a head-on collision with a Gobindanagar- bound local bus at Boalia at around 5.15 pm.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Sheikh Delwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj police station, told BSS that three bus passengers were killed on the spot while the rest four succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.
He said police with the help of locals sent the injured bus passengers at the upazila health complex, Rangpur Medical College and Hospital and Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
The OC said that the death toll may rise as many of the injured have been sent to hospital with critical conditions.
BSS Tangail Correspondent reports: Two sisters of a family were killed and five others sustained injuries as a speeding passenger bus dashed off the road another three-wheeler cab (Vatvoti) at Mirzapur in the district Saturday.
The victim sisters were identified as Amena Begum (30) and Anna Begum (25), both daughters of Abdus Samad of Itahata village under Joydebpur upazila in Gazipur district.
Assistant Sub-inspector of Banshtail police outpost Alauddin told BSS that the accident took place at Panchgaon Hossain Market area of Banshtail Union under Mirzapur Upazila on Gorai-Sakhipur Road Saturday afternoon when a speeding bus dashed the three- wheeler cab off the road leaving at least seven passengers of the latter vehicle injured. Both the sisters succumbed to their serious injuries at Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
BSS Madaripur correspondent reports: Three motorcyclists were killed as a bus crashed into their bike in Rajoir upazila Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Nasir Uddin, 25, son of Abu Alam Sardar, Javed Sardar, 28, son of Alfu Sardar and Babu Fakir, 22, son of Sattat Fakir.
Police and witnesses said the Barisal-bound bus of "Surjamukhi Paribahan" from Faridpur ran into the motorbike of the trio at Kalibari on Dhaka-Barisal highway around 5:30pm while they were going to Tekerhat from the district town.
All of the motorcycle riders died on the spot. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
In Magura, a minor girl Antara Biswas, 12, was killed as a bus crashed her while she was going to a local mandir (worship) with her family at Hajratola in sadar upazila of the district Saturday.
