Hallmark chairman gets bailNew Age Online
A Dhaka court on Sunday gave Hallmark Group Chairman Jesmin Islam bail in 11 cases filed against her in the Sonali Bank loan scam, on condition that she repay Tk 100 crore every month.
Senior Special Judge Zahurul Haq granted the conditional bail which also included Tk one lakh bail bond.
This court had also earlier given her bail on all counts before a suo moto rule issued by the Supreme Court cancelled her bail.
On February 7, when Jesmin received bail on 11 counts for the first time, the Anti-Corruption Commission pleaded the bail be cancelled on grounds that she was trying to influence the investigation of the case. The ACC also said that there was risk that she might flee the country.
Jesmin was arrested on October 17 last year by the Rapid Action Battalion from Manikganj. She was kept in remand for 13 days.
The ACC on October 4 last year filed 11 cases against seven officials of Hallmark Group, including its managing director Tanvir Mahmud, and 20 officials of Sonali Bank, including its former managing director Humayun Kabir.
Six officials of the ACC filed the cases with the Ramna police station under the penal code, money laundering prevention act-2012 and corruption prevention act-1974, over their alleged involvement in swindling over Tk 1,568.39 crore out of about Tk 2,686 crore embezzled from the Sonali Bank’s Ruposhi Bangla hotel branch.
