Khaleda held secret meetings to destabilise country: Hasan MahmudNew Age Online
Forest and environment minister Hasan Mahmud Sunday claimed that opposition leader Khaleda Zia took part in several secret meetings in Saudi Arabia in a bid to hatch conspiracy against the country.
‘Besides holding a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Newaz Sharif, she (Khaldeza Zia) held several other covert meetings there to make the country unstable after Eid,’ he said, calling upon the opposition leader to keep off conspiracy.
Addressing a discussion at the National Press Club, Hasan also said the opposition leader had been relentlessly brewing conspiracy against the country in many ways, including publishing an anti-state article in the Washington Post.
United States of America unit of Awami League organised the discussion on the ‘Government’s success and opposition’s propaganda: the way forward’ with its president Siddiqur Rahman in the chair.
The minister said the remarks by the chief of Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami against Bangladesh High Court’s verdict proved Jamaat’s allegiance to that country. It also proved the Awami League’s claim that the Jamaat was an agent of Pakistan.
Replying to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s claim about bringing in a ‘new commander-in-chief from abroad’, the AL press and publicity secretary said this new commander-in-chief (Joy) of Awami League was a Harvard graduate but the new commander-in-chief (Tareque) of BNP was corrupt and an accused in the August 21 grenade attack case.
The minister urged the BNP to take preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
