PM opens Kuril FlyoverNew Age Online
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday inaugurated the 3.1-kilometre Kuril Flyover in the city for traffic.
Bangladeshi construction company Project Builders Ltd, along with China Major Bridge Engineering Corporation, has constructed the overpass at a cost of Tk 306 crore, financed by Rajuk.
The 8.9-metre wide and 14.6-metre high flyover comprises four sections providing uninterrupted connections between neighbourhoods such as, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Nikunja, Banani, Rampura and Purbachal areas.
According to Rajuk estimate of 2007, around 1,57,000 vehicles plying from the five areas cross the Kuril intersection every day.
Rajuk chairman, Nurul Huda, said traffic through Kuril level crossing gets interrupted severely, leading to terrific jams there.
The flyover would ease traffic jam in the several neighbourhoods, experts said.
