Two BGB men hurt in clash with smugglersNew Age Online
Two personnel of Border Guard Bangladesh were wounded in a clash with smugglers at Gatipara area under Benapole land port early Friday, BGB officials and witnesses said.
The wounded BGB men are Belal Hossain, 35, and AB Siddique, 40, of Putkhali BGB camp under Benapole port police station.
Lieutenant Colonel Tayeful Haque, commanding officer of 23 BGB Battalion told journalists that acting on a tip off, the BGB petrol team raided Gatipara area at about 5:30am when the smugglers were returning from India.
They started pelting brickbats at the BGB men which prompted them to fire a single round of gunshots.
The two BGB men were injured in the clash and were given primary treatment, Tayeful said.
They seized readymade garments worth about Tk 2 lakh from the spot, he added.
A case was filed with Benapole port police station in this regard.
