Several hundred workers of a garment factory at Aamtola of Ashulia on Thursday staged demonstrations demanding wage and protesting at assault on the workers.
In the face of the protest, the management declared the factory closed for the day to avoid further trouble.
Workers and the police said the workers of Deco Group started the demonstration in the morning demanding back pay.
The workers damaged some of the factory furniture, damaged a CCTV camera and smashed windowpanes, witnesses said.
The workers said the management of the factory had not yet made the payment against earned leave. They also alleged that the management’s people had assaulted a number of workers over trifling matters.
Ashulia industrial police deputy assistant director Abdul Baten said the workers tried to come out of the factory to stage protest but the police controlled the situation.
The management declared the factory shut for the day after the agitation, he added.
Police have been deployed on the factory premises to avoid untoward incidents, he said.
