Popular singer Nazmun Munir Nancy for the first time won the National Film Award as the best playback singer for giving voice to the song Dui dikei basobas in the film Prajapati.
Recently, the government announced the names of the winners of National Film Award 2011 through a gazette notification.
‘I am simply overwhelmed,’ said Nancy expressing her feelings after winning the state recognition as a singer. ‘To be very honest, the song did not get popularity as much I thought of. But I was very satisfied with my work and Habib Wahid did a commendable job as the music director. Now I am more than happy,’ Nancy said.
Nancy emerged in the music industry as a playback singer in the film Akash Chhoya Bhalobasa in 2006. With her first song Prithibir jato sukh, she made a wave and gained huge popularity in a short period. She made a strong position in the music industry giving her melodious voice in the playbacks of the films like Chandragrahan, Third Person Singular Person, Khonj the Search and others.
Her first solo album titled Bhalobasar Adhara was released in 2009 and the latest solo album ‘Rang’ was released in 2012.
She has also brought albums with popular contemporary singers cum music directors like Habib, Tausif, Arefin Rumi, Belal Khan and Hridoy Khan.
Nancy, however, wants to strengthen her career in the film industry. ‘I love to be called by as a playback artiste more than a solo singer. Through film songs, I can reach to wider range of people. Moreover, I love to watch popular actress do lip sync with my voice,’ Nancy said.
But, Nancy feels the industry runs in a hectic manner. ‘We, the singers, do not know which lyrics and tune we are going to sing until we reach to the recording studio. We usually practice the song at the studio just before the final recording. We presume the quality of the songs we are going to sing by the names of the lyricists and the music directors.’
But, the process should be more organised for producing better music, said Nany, who trained up as a singer on classical and Nazrul songs.
