At least 10 people were injured when ruling Awami League activists attacked a procession the Bangladesh Nationalist Party brought out at Muradnagar in Comilla on Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses said that Awami League men, armed with lethal weapons, attacked the procession of several hundred
supporters of local lawmaker Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad
drumming up support for a strike they planned to enforce in Comilla on January 24.
The Muradnagar unit BNP’s joint secretary Kamal Uddin Bhuiyan
said that the ruling party men had attacked
them without any provocation to foil their demonstrations.
The Muradnagar police officer-in-charge, Monirul Islam, however, said that supporters of the uapzila unit Juba Dal president Masud and upazila BNP leader Mujibur Rahman had chased each other for a few minutes.
