Bangladesh Chhatra League men allegedly intruded into a dormitory of female students at Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College on Sunday night.
According to the witnesses, Chhatra League leaders Maruf Hossain and Abu Sayem intruded into the new female hostel at about 9:00pm and asked the inmates to show the documents of their allotment of the room.
They, however, left the hostel after about half an hour, but backed again around midnight, the witnesses said.
They knocked on the doors of more than 40 rooms and asked for the inmates’ allotment letters.
According to the witnesses, the Chhatra League men also asked the inmates to vacate the room 2023 for accommodating their female fellows.
The residential students said that none of the authority visited the hostel even after being informed by them.
The female students on Monday demonstrated on the campus protesting against the intrusion and submitted a memorandum to the principal demanding punishment of the intruders, security at the female hostels and allotments of the rooms based on merit.
The college principal, Shahidul Alam, said he received the memorandum and formed a six-member probe committee.
Maruf Hossain, however, claimed that they entered the hostel obtaining permission from the hostel superintendent and female hostel secretary and only waited at the guest room at the ground floor.
‘We have asked inmates to vacate room 2023, as they have no allotment,’ he said.
Hostel superintendent SM Sarwar denied giving any permission to the BCL men to visit inside the female hostel.
Old female hostel secretary Nupur Pal, also a final year student, said no secretary was yet made for the new hostel and she never permitted any men to visit inside the female hostel.
