MINOR GIRL KILLING

Caretakers killed Ritu: family

Six arrested

Staff Correspondent

Mother of the minor girl Ritu, who was found dead in a commercial building at Topkhana Road on Saturday, alleged that caretakers and owner of the building were involved with the killing of her daughter.
Nurjahan Begum, mother of the girl, alleged caretakers Selim, Mostofa, Nazrul and another unnamed man killed her daughter after rape when she went to the building at about 5:00pm on January 14 to collect food boxes.
In the case filed by her, Nurjahan mentioned the name of Selim, Mostofa and Nazrul but the police did not put the names in the first information report.
Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Sirajul Islam said the plaintiff mentioned the names out of suspicion.
In the incident, the police have already arrested six people working in different offices housed at the building and sent them to court with seven days’ remand prayer, said the OC.
A metropolitan magistrate fixed Monday as the date for hearing in the case after the investigation officer, Nazir Uddin, produced them in the court, court sources said.
On Saturday the police detained three caretakers, who stayed on the floor at night, — Golam Mostafa at White Rose Travels, Selim Biswas at Air Piece Travel and Nazrul at Naser Travels — but they did not admit their involvement in the killing, he said.
The other arrestees are Nurul Islam, Sahabuddin Sahadat, Iskandir Ali, workers of different offices on the floor.
The decomposed body of Ritu Akhter, 10, was found in a toilet of Tropicana Tower at Topkhana Road under Shahbagh police in the city Saturday noon.
Her mother said Ritu used to supply lunch to different offices and also for Selim, Mostofa, Nazrul — office assistants of three travel agencies on the floor, and another Anwar, employee of Kortowa Currier, who stay on the floor at night.
Her mother told reporters that Ritu remained missing since Monday evening when she went to the building to collect food boxes.
The police could not confirm if she was raped
as the body was decomposed.
Ritu lived in a tin-shed house near the building at Segunbagicha with her mother. She was from Nagarpur in Tangail.
The family received her body from the police after post-mortem examination and she was buried at Azimpur graveyard.
