BNP demands arrest of Giasuddin

Staff Correspondent

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party spokesman Tariqul Islam on Friday demanded arrest of ruling Awami League lawmaker Giasuddin Ahmed dubbing him as self-confessed killer of late president Ziaur Rahman.
He made the demand while addressing a function on the premise Ziaur Rahman’s grave organised by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha, a cultural organisation backed by the BNP marking the 77th birth anniversary of Zia to be observed on January 19.
Referring to media reports, Tariqul said that the ruling party lawmaker on Thursday confessed to the murder of Ziaur Rahman.
According to the media reports, Giasuddin, also a retired captain of the army, on Thursday went to the primary and mass education ministry and threatened two staff, as they allegedly delayed providing the photocopy of a document which he wanted to fax from the ministry.
Giasuddin also told the ministry staff that he had killed Ziaur Rahman and had been sentenced to death for the killing, Tariqul said.
The BNP leader said that the lawmaker had also killed people in his own constituency.
He blamed the government for inflation following the increase in prices of fuel oils.
Tariqul also criticised the government for the use of pepper spray by police to suppress the movement.

if it is true that Giasuddin Ahmed had killed Ziaur Rahman, the incumbents will never bring him to book. Rather they will consider him a great hero and give him the best reward.
