Left-leaning partners of the Awami League-led alliance on Monday called on the government to cancel the latest fuel price hike and to refrain from increasing the power price any further.
Seven partners of the ruling alliance submitted a memorandum to the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, through the upazila nirbahi officers across the country and through the deputy commissioner of Dhaka centrally.
Leaders and activists of 10 left parties gathered in the city’s Bahadur Shah Park and handed over the memorandum to DC Sheikh Mohammad Yusuf Hossain after holding a short rally in front of the park.
The memorandum said by effecting another phase of fuel price hikes recently the government had increased the sufferings of the people.
It termed the fuel price hikes unjustified and called on the government to scrap the increase immediately.
The prices of essential commodities and transport fares have already increased and farmers would suffer much, the memorandum claimed.
Workers Party of Bangladesh Dhaka City unit secretary Kishore Roy spoke at the rally led by WPB central leader Quamrul Ahsan, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal convener Rezaur Rashid, Gana Oikya leader Safar Ali, among others.
Leaders of the Ganatantri Party, Samyabadi Dal, Gana Azadi League, Communist Kendra, Ganatantrik Mojdur Party, National Awami Party, and Parbatta Chattagram Janasanghati Samiti also took part in the programme.
