Social networking sites: blessing or curse?

NOWADAYS various social networking sites have become the most prominent way of communication throughout the world as well as in Bangladesh. Though social networking is a revolution in the new era of modern technology, it also possesses some threats to society. Today’s youngsters are becoming more and more addicted to such sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Hi-5, Google Plus, etc.
There is no doubt that social networking is the easiest way to make the world smaller and getting connected the people around the world. But at the same time the very fact cannot be denied that the users are abusing various functions of these sites.
It is commonplace today that users are making fun of sensitive national and international issues. Such activities are confusing the users in general and creating wrong ideas very often.
Moreover, some activities, which are regarded as funs by some, may result in destructive situation and cyber crimes. Other than that, in the name of networking, people are losing their privacy which is utterly unacceptable.
And in such circumstances, the use of social networking websites is becoming more and more questionable and we must make a move quickly to decide whether we need them or not. If we really do need these websites, it is obligatory to use them sensibly.
