Several hundred students of BSc in health technology (dental) on Saturday staged demonstrations in front of the National Press Club, demanding that the name of their discipline should be changed to create job opportunity for them.
Students and graduates under the banner of BSc in Health Technology (Dental) Students’ Association gathered to press home their demands that the name of their discipline should either be Bachelors of Dentistry or BSc in Dentistry with a unitary course curriculum.
The students brought out a protest procession after the rally.
The students also displayed blood-written placards in protest at the police atrocities on them on Wednesday in which six students were injured.
They also demanded practice registration approved by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, launching of the discipline in all public universities with a four-year academic session and an additional one-year internship and discipline-based jobs in all government hospitals and institutions.
The association member secretary, Arafat Haidar, said earlier a delegation of seven students went to the health ministry but returned without any assurance from the authorities.
They will submit a memorandum of understanding to the prime minister on Monday to press home their demands, he added.
