Smartphone Expo 2013 draws large crowdStaff Correspondent
A three-day-long expo of smartphones drew huge crowd on its opening day on Friday at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in capital.
The Smart-phone Expo 2013 has been organised by Expomaker with major support from government telecommunication company Teletalk.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu who attended the inauguration of the fair expressed his hope that digitising of the government offices will gather more speed as the Awami League-led government is avowed to build a ‘digital Bangladesh.’
Organisers said the exhibition focuses on the smartphones and advanced application softwares to be used in smartphones.

Teletalk officials said their highlight at the expo was the ‘third generation’ mobile technology, shortened as 3G, they have recently introduced to the country for the first time.
‘We are offering Teletalk 3G SIMs at a reduced price at Tk 770 and 3G modem at Tk 2240 at the fair,’ said Habibur Rahman, sales and marketing general manager of the company.
‘We will spread our service out of Dhaka soon,’ he added.
‘We are displaying many kinds of applications at this fair to help the smartphone users become familiar with them,’ Expo convener Biplob Ghosh Rahul said.
Besides, the stalls of smartphone manufacturers like Symphony and Samsung, the expo has stalls of Kaspersky antivirus and local mobile phone and application softwares selling companies.
‘We have come here to help young people familiarise with the Google mapping system and inspire them to participate in marking locations of our country on it,’ said a leader of the organiation Altafuzzaman.
Entry to the fair remaining open from 10:00am to 8:00pm is free for all.
