Forty shanties burnt down as a devastating fire broke out at a slum in the city’s Dhalpur area on Thursday morning.
Sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in a shanty on Wasa Road under Jatrabari police station at about 9:40am and soon engulfed 39 other shanties.
Five fire service units from different areas of the city rushed to the spot and doused the flame after frantic efforts at 10:10am, said Monir Hossain, assistant director of Fire Brigade and Civil Defence.
No casualty was reported in the incident.
