Two franchises – Chittagong Kings and Duranto Rajshahi – are at loggerheads as both the sides claim to avail the services of Australian pace bowler Shaun Tait in the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Under the BPL rule a franchise can avail the services of any player through applying to the governing council on first come first basis, if that player remains unsold at the auction.
Both Kings and Duranto claimed that they have submitted their application to the BPL governing council for the player and hope to get him in the upcoming edition.
Chittagong Kings owner Sameer Quader Chowdhury said that they have already received the approval from the BPL technical committee members after they applied for the Australian.
‘Shaun Tait will play for Kings as we had been the first team to apply and have already received approval,’ said Sameer.
Naimur Rahman, a member of the technical committee, who is looking after the matter, also said that they had cleared Shaun Tait for Kings.
‘We had already forwarded Tait’s clearance for Kings to the BPL governing council and now it’s up to them to decide about him,’ said Naimur.
‘I don’t know anything regarding Rajshahi,’ he added.
Meanwhile, Duranto Rajshahi owner Mushfiqur Rahman is also said to have applied for Tait at the very beginning.
‘We have applied for him at the very beginning and we are confident of getting his services,’ said Mushfiq.
BPL governing council member-secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said that there is a confusion regarding Tait and he hopes to resolve the matter very soon.
