VIOLATION OF LAYOUT IN PLOT ALLOTMENT

JS panel wants action against offenders

Staff Correspondent

The parliamentary panel on housing and public works ministry on Sunday resented non- implementation of its recommendation for action against persons involved in allocating plots at Gulshan and Banani in the capital in violation of the original layout.
The committee members called for action against the persons who had ignored the recommendation. A sub-committee of the panel had recommended action against them for allotting plots at spaces meant for playground, educational institution, filling stations and open space in the up-market residential areas.
Besides, the committee also sought a report on possibilities of turning Tejgaon into a industrial-cum-commercial zone shifting the offices and business establishments illegally set up at Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Uttara. The committee asked the ministry to submit the report in its next meeting.
The recommendations followed a sub-committee report on commercial use of residential plots in posh areas.
The committee expressed satisfaction at the start of housing projects at upazila levels and laid stress on multi-storied buildings for best utilisation of lands.
The committee members also congratulated housing minister Abdul Mannan Khan for being re-elected office secretary of the Awami League.
Committee members Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury, Abdus Sattar, Asaduzzman Khan, Zahirul Huq Bhuiyan, KM Khalid and Azizul Huq Chowdhury attended the meeting presided over by ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury.
