Sixth straight defeat for BUStaff Correspondent
Traditional giants Brothers Union tumbled down to the bottom of the Bangladesh Premier League table, increasing their relegation tension after they were handed a 2-0 defeat by Team BJMC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Young BJMC striker Toklis Ahmed doubled the lead after his prolific Guinean teammate Ismail Bangoura’s early strike to condemn Brothers to their sixth consecutive defeat in the competition.
This is the first time in the history of Brothers Union that they have lost all of their first six matches and to make matters worse their players played wearing the jersey of great European club FC Barcelona in the match.
Despite having a five-man defence with all of them moving ahead in unison in a bid to trap the opposition forwards off-side, Brothers conceded their first goal in the 11th minute when BJMC’s Bangoura headed home a Saiful Islam Saif corner-kick from the left.
Brothers created a good scoring chance three minutes later but their Nigerian forward Elita Kingsley, after snatching the ball from BJMC defender Keshto Kumar, shot wide from the top of the penalty area.
The Gopibagh outfit were once again unlucky in the 17th minute as a long-range angular shot by their midfielder Rashedul Alam Moni came back off the crosspiece with BJMC goalie Aminul standing still.
BJMC, however, did not make a mistake in utilising the very few scoring opportunities they got and found their second goal 10 minutes into the second-half with substitute forward Toklis heading in a right-hand side cross from Bangoura.
With this win BJMC took their tally to eight points from six matches while Brothers are yet to open their account.
