Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley’s son Julian Marley, who is also a popular singer of the music genre, will perform today in Dhaka. His band Uprising will perform along with the local popular band Miles at the Hall of Fame of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
‘Reggae reflects the spirit of the struggling people. Since the people here in Bangladesh are also struggling, the genre suits them perfectly,’ said Julian at a press conference on Wednesday at the Rupashi Bangla hotel.
Like his father, Julian is also a member of the ‘Rastafari movement’, a Jamaica based spiritual movement initiated in 1930s by the black African descendants of ‘slaves’.
We will present some hit numbers of my father and also a few of tracks composed by us, Julian Marley said.
Miles’ vocalist Shafin Ahmed and representatives of the organisers Creins were also present at the press conference.
Miles will play a Bob Marley’s song with Jamaican band Uprising in the concert. It will also present its popular numbers. Expressing his feeling to have the opportunity to perform with the successor of the iconic singer Bob, Shafin said, ‘It will be a great pleasure for us to play a Marley’s song with his son Julian, as we his songs in our concerts. For instance in the New Year’s Eve concert we played Bob Marley’s two songs in a hotel.’
The ticket prices are BDT 3000, 5000 and 10000. The students can purchase the tickets with 50% discount showing their identity cards. The tickets are available at all the outlets of Coffee World, Café 33 (Baily Road), Soi3 Café (Dhanmondi), Gulshan and Banani branches of Fahim Music and Westin hotel and Ruposhi Bangla hotel.
