TANGAIL GANG-RAPE

Girl still severely traumatised

Mohibub Zaman

The 14-year-old gang-rape victim in Tangail, now being treated in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, still remains severely traumatised, physicians said.
It is ‘very difficult to cure her,’ Bilkis Begu, the coordinator of the One-Stop Crisis Centre at the DMCH, said on Wednesday.
‘Her condition is still unstable,’ Bilkis said. She is also under the treatment of physicians of the National Trauma Centre.
She talks herself when she wakes up and falls into sleep without responding to anyone, Bilkis said.
The victim was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday noon and was shifted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre in the evening.
The girl was abducted on December 7, 2012 and raped for three days, according to the police and the family.
She was later found unconscious by the railway at Madhupur in Tangail  on December 10.
The girl was admitted to Tangail General Hospital on December 11 from where she was shifted to the DMCH as her conditioned deteriorated.
Bithi Akhter, close to the girl, invited her to a wedding ceremony on December 7 from where she was taken to a  house in a nearby forest, the victim’s mother said.
The police have so far arrested five suspects, including Bithi, in this connection and produced them in court on Wednesday.
The court allowed Bithi to be remanded in custody for interrogation for a day and the other four — Shahjahan Ali, Nuruzzaman Geda, Harunur Rashid, Moniruzzaman Moni — for three days, the New Age correspondent in Tangail said. The police sought their remand in custody for seven days.
The victim’s brother filed a case with the Madhupur police on December 31, 2012.

Let us stand by the girl. Let us protest it violently sothat violence against women can be stopped. I appeal all the lawyers not to fight for the rapists. The rapists should be given highest punishment.

Victim's brother filed a case on 31st December but the rapists raped the girl 7 to 10 December. Even the local parliament member did visit yet. Good news the police arrested the rapists. We strongly believe the government must take proper action against the rapists.
