Bangladeshi documentary screened at German fest

Bangladeshi documentary film Are You Listening (Shunte Ki Pao) was screened on the opening day of the 55th International DOK Leipzig festival at the Leipzig CineStar theater complex in Germany on Monday, said a press release.
The oldest festival of its kind, DOK Leipzig festival features documentary and animated films from across the world.
Besides, Are You Listening, Danish film The Will was also screened on the opening day. Director of the film Christian Sonderby Jepsen was given the 2012 Doc Alliance Award with prize money worth 5,000 euros.
About 750 national and international guests including 200 filmmakers were present at the opning ceremony including Saxon State Minister of the Arts, Sabine von Schorlemer, and Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung along.
Jointly directed by Kamar Ahmad Simon and Sara Afreen, the film features struggles of a community in a small village near Sunderban following the last tidal surge called Sidr that washed away their homes and belongings and compelled them to live stranded on the only existing high land.
The aim of the movie; however, is to present bravery of the ordinary people to winning the odds to celebrate life.
