Rajshahi people submit memo demanding gas, power, water

Our Correspondent . Rajshahi

Human rights activists and a civic body in Rajshahi submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Wednesday morning, demanding immediate and uninterrupted supply of gas, power and water.
Several hundred people, under the banner of Rajshahi Rakkha Sangram Parishad, went to the deputy commissioner’s office and submitted the memorandum.
The memorandum states that despite the prime minister’s announcement
to supply natural gas through pipeline by January 2011, people of Rajshahi were still deprived of the facility.
There are many small cottage industries in Rajshahi which require gas on an emergency basis, the memorandum added.
Leaders of the RRSP also mentioned that frequent outages, voltage fluctuation and load-shedding deeply hampered the industrial production, office works and irrigation schemes.
Former president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Bakker Ali and Mohammad Ali Sarker, Jatiya Party leader Zoha Sarker, National Awami Party leader Mustafizur Rahman Khan Alam and Rajshahi Rakkhah Sangram Parishad leader Debashish Pramanik Debu, among others, were present during submitting the memorandum.
